Visitor guidance service at the Taipei Museum of Contemporary Art in Taiwan using state-of-the-art indoor navigation technology
August 14, 2012, Seoul – STMicroelectronics (ST, hereinafter ST), a global semiconductor company providing various electronic applications and a leader in MEMS technology for consumer and portable applications, [1] is providing its indoor navigation technology to the Taipei Museum of Contemporary Art in Taiwan to help visitors view the exhibition of works by Chinese film director King Hu, who is active in Taiwan.
You have likely experienced getting lost in a shopping mall, store, airport, parking lot, or art museum. ST's indoor navigation technology solves the weaknesses of satellite navigation indoors by enabling users to conveniently check real-time information about exhibitions using smart devices such as mobile phones.
Accurate indoor location tracking is a key element in implementing location-based services and is attracting attention as a next-generation "emerging technology" in the mobile sector. ST has developed a highly accurate and reliable indoor location tracking system by integrating its optimized MEMS inertial modules with CSR's latest positioning technology, thereby resolving GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) visibility issues in urban canyons or indoors. Through this collaboration between ST and the Taipei Museum of Contemporary Art, two industries, exhibition guidance is provided directly on visitors' smartphones, helping them experience the artistic world of Director King Hu's films more fully. With this system, visitors can not only receive navigation directions within the exhibition hall on their smartphones but also automatically hear relevant information as they approach each exhibit.

ST/CSR technology was showcased at the 2012 World Mobile Congress as the world's most accurate indoor positioning system. It accurately determines the location of mobile devices within minutes, even when GNSS satellite signals are unavailable. This technology can meet the accuracy needs of numerous emerging location-based services in complex indoor environments, such as airport terminals, exhibition halls, large warehouses, supermarkets, libraries, and underground parking lots.
