Support for non-vSphere-based workloads and large-scale application migrations

VMware announces the latest version of its application mobility platform, VMware HCX, and strengthens support for enterprises' cloud migration strategies.

The newly updated VMware HCX simplifies workload migration, rebalancing, and disaster recovery optimization across data centers and cloud environments.

Key features of VMware HCX for enterprise customers include: Kernel-based virtual machines (Support is provided for VMware HCX, which supports migration of non-vSphere-based workloads such as KVM and Hyper-V, VMware HCX vMotion, which enables large-scale migration, and SRM, which supports the latest disaster recovery function.

According to a 2019 report from technology analyst firm 451 Research, the percentage of workloads running primarily in public cloud environments is expected to nearly double over the next two years.

VMware has been strengthening its leadership across hybrid and multi-cloud infrastructure by providing offerings such as VMware Cloud on AWS and VMware Cloud Foundation through VMware Cloud Provider Program (VCPP) partners, and this update to the VMware HCX platform will further strengthen support for enterprises to build a borderless SDDC (Software-Defined Data Center) environment.
