Strengthening support for technological independence in the materials, components, and equipment sectors

The government announced that it will provide over 200 billion won in annual support to strategic technologies related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

We will prioritize support for the AI field, and provide over 100 billion won in annual support to the three major new industries: system semiconductors, future automobiles, and biohealth.

This support plan is designed to encourage the creation of new businesses in the 4th Industrial Revolution sector, and can provide up to 2 billion won over a period of three years, depending on the company's capabilities.
To avoid the inefficiencies of the existing R&D support subsidy system, an investment-type R&D system of "private investment first, government matching later" will be introduced, departing from the general subsidy system.

Additionally, it was revealed that this support will be provided in various ways to resolve practical business operation difficulties such as regulatory resolution, social venture, and re-challenge R&D.

In particular, in cases such as regulatory resolution, support is provided in the form of a package that combines pre-regulatory consulting and R&D to enable technology development that prepares in advance for regulations that may become obstacles to commercialization. R&D is supported after pre-regulatory consulting to enable preparation in advance for domestic regulations such as clinical trials, certification, and inspection of technology development results.

Also, considering the domestic conditions due to Japan's ban on exporting semiconductor materials, "materials. parts. Support for independent R&D in the equipment sector will be strengthened, and a technologically specialized cooperative ecosystem will be established from large corporations to small businesses.

This measure aims to foster mutually beneficial cooperation, where small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) develop and produce items needed by large and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and large enterprises continuously purchase them.

To this end, we will promote the "100 Strong Small and Medium Enterprises + 100 Startups Project" in the materials, components, and equipment sectors. We will select 100 companies with technological capabilities and 100 companies with excellent startup ideas and technological prowess to support their stable growth.

Investments are supported through “R&D, commercialization funds, sales package support, and creation of a venture fund dedicated to materials, parts, and equipment.”

Minister of SMEs and Startups Park Young-sun, who made the announcement that day, said, "In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, fast and innovative small and medium-sized enterprises can become the main players in the market," and added, "We will support small and medium-sized venture companies so that they can become the main players in creating new industries in the Fourth Industrial Revolution."
