Launch of Backlight LED Driver to Improve Battery Life in Tablets and Mobile Devices
August 23, 2012 – Intersil, a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, today announced the introduction of a backlight LED driver that operates from the low input voltages of single-cell Li-ion batteries. The new ISL9769x series delivers high efficiency with ultra-low quiescent current, maximizing battery life in smartphones, tablets, Ultrabooks, and notebooks.
The ISL97692/3/4A series of LED drivers offer a minimum input current of just 2.4 V and a standby current of 0.8 mA, maximizing the limited capacity of lithium-ion batteries in portable devices. The ISL97692 integrates four channels with up to 40 mA, while the ISL97693 and ISL97694A offer six channels with up to 30 mA.
Featuring output voltage phase shifting, the product maximizes efficiency during PWM dimming while simultaneously increasing the effective output current frequency and eliminating noise. Furthermore, when operating from a single-cell lithium-ion battery, the driver requires no input current beyond the battery, reducing board size and the number of required components.
