5G U+ Smart Drone Demonstration in Baegot New Town
As part of the creation of a smart police force through drone patrol units
Control drone movement using AI voice recognition technology


On the 21st, LG Uplus publicly demonstrated the 5G U+ Smart Drone equipped with AI voice recognition and real-time FHD video transmission technology in Baegot New Town, Siheung, Gyeonggi Province.

In a demonstration held with officials from the Siheung Police Station and Baegot Police Substation in Siheung City, LG Uplus controlled the U+ Smart Drone, which moves at a maximum altitude of 50m and a speed of 36km/h, using voice commands via a smartphone app.

High-definition real-time video transmission technology via the drone's camera was also showcased. With a 5G-based joystick, the camera was operated in real time in all directions, and through the zoom in/out function, even business card-sized text on the ground was displayed.

"Real-time FHD video transmission allows drones to identify even the faces of specific people in motion in detail," an LG Uplus official explained. "Especially in high-crime areas, positive effects are expected, such as enhanced public safety simply through drone surveillance area guidance."

This demonstration was conducted in collaboration with drone manufacturer U-Sys, Selvas AI (which possesses AI voice recognition and synthesis technology), and Ubivelox Mobile (a system building and application software developer). U-Sys’s drone, the TB-504, transmitted real-time Full HD video via 5G smartphone tethering attached to the aircraft.

Seo Jae-yong, Senior Vice President of Enterprise 5G Business at LG Uplus, stated, “This demonstration is part of the smart police initiative centered on drone patrol units,” adding, “We will strive to contribute to the advancement of public security systems in each local government through various 5G-based ICT technologies, such as intelligent CCTVs as well as drones.”

Meanwhile, in April of this year, LG Uplus signed a business agreement with Siheung City, Siheung Police Station, and the Seoul National University Institute of Advanced Technology to implement a smart city based on smart policing and personal mobility. Since last September, it has been piloting an urban security system utilizing future unmanned vehicles in Baegot New Town, Siheung, Gyeonggi Province.
