August 29, 2012 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-gwak) announced the launch of the LT8300, a monolithic flyback regulator with low quiescent current that significantly simplifies the design of isolated DC/DC converters. Since the output voltage is sensed from the primary-side flyback signal, it does not require an optocoupler, auxiliary winding, or signal transformer for feedback. The LT8300 operates over an input voltage range of 6V to 100V and features a 260mA, 150V power switch, providing a maximum output power of 2 watts. With these characteristics, it is ideal for a wide range of applications including telecommunications, datacom, automotive, industrial, and medical sectors.

The LT8300 operates using boundary mode and current-mode control switching principles, delivering superior regulation performance of better than ±5% across the entire line, load, and temperature range. Boundary mode, also known as critical conduction mode (CCM), allows the use of a smaller transformer compared to equivalent continuous conduction mode designs. Low output ripple Burst Mode® operation maintains high efficiency and extends battery runtime during light-load operation with low quiescent current. The output voltage is easily set through a single external resistor and transformer turns ratio. Multiple transformers specified in the datasheet can be used to suit various applications. Additional features include power limiting, internal soft start, and adjustable low-voltage lockout. These highly integrated features provide a simple, component-efficient, and fully regulated solution, making it ideal for isolated power supplies.

The LT8300 is offered in a compact 5-pin ThinSOT™ package. The extended industrial-grade version operates over a junction temperature range of -40°C to 125°C, while the automotive-grade high-temperature version operates from -40°C to 150°C.
