ST to Partner with Swiss Maxon Motor in Motor Drives

STMicroelectronics announced on the 6th that it will collaborate with Maxon Motor in the design of robotics applications and industrial servo drives.
The two companies have already presented the jointly developed servo control kit at the 2019 Automation Systems and Components Exhibition held in Nuremberg, Germany from November 26 to 28.

ST's EVALKIT-ROBOT-1 is a plug-and-play solution designed to enable users to easily implement precise positioning and advanced motion capabilities in servo drives and robotics. The kit includes a 100W Maxon Motor motor with a built-in 1024-pulse position encoder.
The servo control board supplied with this kit contains ST's STSPIN32F0A intelligent 3-phase motor controller and an inverter stage with built-in ST power transistors that can be directly connected to the motor. There is also motor control firmware, allowing users to easily start the motor and send commands.
“The new platform we developed with ST makes these benefits easily accessible to a wide range of product designers,” said Felix Herger, head of business development for industrial automation at maxon motor.
“Designing advanced motion control with precise positioning capabilities is a complex, time-consuming and demanding specialty,” said Branimir Ivetic, ST’s motion control product marketing manager.
“Through our collaboration with Maxon Motor, we have been able to implement these technologies into solutions that are easy for customers to use,” he said. “The EVALKIT-ROBOT-1 kit will accelerate the development of next-generation robotics and automation.”
The kit is available for purchase online and costs $129.
