Life Safety Living Lab Opens to Demonstrate Products for Vulnerable Groups

The National Industrial Convergence Support Center of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) announced on the 23rd that it has established a 'Life Safety Living Lab' to strengthen support for the demonstration of products developed for socially vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, infants and toddlers, and people with disabilities.
The Life Safety Living Lab, located on the 3rd floor of the Hwaseong Citizen Safety Education Center, covers an area of approximately 1,207 square meters and consists of actual experimental spaces resembling homes, nursing homes, kindergartens, and hotels, virtual experimental spaces equipped with VR equipment, and prototyping spaces where prototypes can be produced.
Fifteen types of user information measurement equipment, including eye trackers, motion analysis systems, and observation cameras, capable of collecting and analyzing actual user activity data in the experimental space, were also provided.
In addition, we plan to introduce three types of environmental measurement equipment, such as an environmental information monitoring system, and eight types of test and evaluation equipment capable of testing the physical characteristics of products by 2020.
With the opening of the Life Safety Living Lab following the Ansan Industrial Safety Living Lab, the infrastructure supporting demonstration at the Smart Safety Living Lab Center has been fully established.
The Smart Safety Living Lab Center is a safety center at the Institute of Industrial Technology It is a user-participatory laboratory established with the support of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to assist companies struggling with the launch and market establishment of new convergence products.
The center plans to bifurcate support for user demonstration of new convergence products by safety sector, with the Industrial Safety Living Lab handling workplace safety accident prevention and the Living Safety Living Lab handling safety management in the daily environment.
In addition, certification support services, such as the Convergence New Product Conformity Certification System and regulatory sandboxes, are provided for companies facing difficulties in product launch due to the lack of certification standards.
Center Director Kim Min-seon stated, “Since new products in the safety sector are directly related to users’ lives, prior verification and certification regarding performance, safety, and convenience are crucial.” She added, “With the opening of the center, we can provide one-stop support for user-centered verification and certification, enabling us to resolve the difficulties faced by innovative companies regarding commercialization planning and product launches.”

"5G Bandwidth Will Double": Second Inter-Ministerial, Public-Private Joint 5G+ Strategy Committee Convened
The government held the second pan-governmental private-public joint 5G+ Strategy Committee meeting. At the second strategy committee meeting, agendas regarding private sector implementation results and plans, 5G trade insurance support strategy, 5G+ strategy 2020 implementation plan, and 5G+ spectrum plan were reported.
