LG Electronics is establishing a joint venture with Swiss software company Luxoft to provide new customer value in the next-generation automotive sector.

LG Electronics and Luxoft signed an agreement to establish a joint venture in Las Vegas, USA on the 7th (local time).

The two companies will establish a joint venture in Santa Clara, California, USA, in the first half of 2020. Based on the webOS Auto platform, the joint venture will develop digital cockpits, rear-seat entertainment systems (RSE), and systems and services for intelligent mobility.

WebOS Auto is a Linux-based automotive infotainment platform that supports a variety of solutions for services specialized for connected cars. Companies across a wide range of fields, from SoCs to cloud services, are participating in webOS Auto's open ecosystem.

“We will strengthen our collaboration to drive innovation in the field of intelligent mobility based on an open platform,” said Dmitry Loschinin, CEO of Luxoft.

LG Electronics CTO Park Il-pyeong said, “The establishment of the joint venture will serve as an opportunity to further strengthen the webOS Auto ecosystem,” and “We will provide new customer value for future connected cars through the next-generation vehicle infotainment platform based on webOS Auto.”
