Hyundai Motor, the first global automotive company to sign a UAM agreement with Uber
Building a dynamic urban environment with demand-responsive urban air mobility

Hyundai Motor Company entered into a strategic partnership with Uber for the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) business sector based on Personal Air Vehicles (PAVs) and unveiled a full-scale PAV concept for the first time at CES 2020.
With this, Hyundai Motor became the first global automotive company to form a strategic partnership with Uber in the UAM sector.

The newly unveiled PAV concept 'S-A1' was completed through Uber's air taxi development process and has a wingspan of 15m, a length of 10.7m, and can accommodate up to 5 people including the pilot.

It is equipped with electric propulsion vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) capabilities that allow it to fly without a runway, and is equipped with a total of 8 propellers, enabling it to fly up to approximately 100 km.

The maximum flight speed reaches 290 km/h, and high-speed battery charging for re-flight is also possible during the approximately 5 minutes it takes for passengers to board and disembark at the take-off and landing site.

The S-A1 is planned to be developed so that it is piloted manually during the initial commercialization phase, and then capable of autonomous flight once automatic flight technology is stabilized.

In this agreement Accordingly, Hyundai Motor will develop PAVs, and Uber will provide urban air services through its air ride-sharing network.

In addition, the two companies will collaborate on the development of a Skyport concept for PAVs. The combination of Hyundai Motor, which possesses outstanding capabilities in vehicle development and manufacturing, lightweighting technology, and battery-based powertrain systems, and Uber, which has secured advanced technology in PAV design and mobility service platforms, will maximize synergies.

Starting with this PAV concept, Hyundai Motor plans to strengthen its cooperation with Uber to develop a world-class PAV.

Based on its collaboration with Uber, Hyundai Motor plans to integrate the development of world-class Personal Air Vehicles (PAVs) and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) services to advance into a UAM business. The realization of innovative mobility services connecting cities is part of Hyundai Motor's strategy to transform into a smart mobility solutions company.

Chung Eui-sun, Senior Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, stated, “Based on our cooperation with Uber, we will actively develop new technologies and businesses that will free up human mobility,” adding, “We will constantly innovate to redefine the limits of human mobility and be reborn as a company that provides more valuable time.”

Meanwhile, on the 7th, at the CES 2020 Hyundai Motor Media Event, Hyundai Motor unveiled a human-centered future mobility vision based on close connectivity between UAM (Urban Air Mobility), PBV (Purpose Built Vehicle), and Hub (Mobility Transfer Hub), presenting the innovative mobility that humanity will experience and the changes in future cities based on it.
