The launch of the Global MEC Task Force paves the way for 5G technology exports.
Promoting the development of standards for a borderless MEC platform.

SK Telecom is establishing a cooperative system with five Asian telecommunications companies in the field of 5G MEC, a next-generation technology, to create an export channel for 5G technology services.
SK Telecom launched the 'Global MEC Task Force' on the 13th with five members of the Bridge Alliance, an Asia-Pacific telecommunications industry association: Singtel (Singapore), Globe (Philippines), Taiwan Mobile (Taiwan), HKT (Hong Kong), and PCCW Global (Hong Kong). SK Telecom will serve as the inaugural chairman.

The Global MEC TF was formed when Bridge Alliance requested SK Telecom, the world's first company to successfully commercialize 5G and develop MEC, to transfer related technologies.

SK Telecom plans to share its 5G and MEC achievements with member companies preparing for 5G commercialization within the year, such as Singtel and Globe, through the Global MEC Task Force, and to jointly develop MEC technology and services by pooling the capabilities of each company. In addition, we are actively working to establish standards for a borderless MEC platform.

This cooperative system is more meaningful in that it seeks to export the Asian 5G MEC ecosystem and 5G technology and services to relevant countries, focusing on domestic technology.

SK Telecom has packaged MEC and other solutions to export its core 5G technologies overseas, and is currently holding its first workshop with approximately 30 TF members at the SK Telecom headquarters in Euljiro, Seoul, from January 13th to 15th.

At the workshop, SK Telecom will introduce ▲SK Telecom's 5G strategy ▲MEC-based smart factory case ▲5G cluster built at the future experience center Tium and Jongno Roll Park.

MEC is a core 5G technology that creates a wireless data transmission shortcut and improves the performance of ultra-low latency services such as ▲cloud gaming ▲smart factories ▲autonomous driving and vehicle control.

Lee Kang-won, head of SK Telecom Cloud Labs, said, “Around 350 telecommunications companies are expected to commercialize 5G by the end of this year, and requests to collaborate with SK Telecom on 5G MEC services are also increasing.” He added, “I hope that the cooperative system will expand centered on Korea so that domestic 5G MEC technology can quickly spread to the global market.”
