Supply of a total of 2.8 GHz public frequency for social security sectors
The government is strengthening its social safety net by supplying public frequencies of 2.8 GHz for disaster relief, maritime and aviation safety, and meteorological services.
Considering the recent increase in demand for radar for drone detection, weather observation, and maritime surveillance, the government is also pursuing measures to share information between radar operating agencies and to discover dedicated bands.

On January 17, the Ministry of Science and ICT held a public frequency policy council meeting with related organizations, including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and finalized and announced the '2020 Public Frequency Supply and Demand Plan.'
According to the supply plan, a total of 2,823 MHz of frequency will be supplied throughout 2020 for disaster response, public security, prevention of maritime accidents, aircraft safety, abnormal weather observation, and satellite communication network operation. This is an increase of more than eight times compared to last year (336.4 MHz).
The Ministry of Science and ICT will notify relevant organizations of its 2020 public frequency supply plan and implement a frequency supply plan in stages in line with the project promotion and radio station establishment schedule.
Jang Seok-young, Second Vice Minister of Science and ICT, said, “In order to meet the public’s expectations for disaster and accident response and prevention, we have decided on the purpose and details of public frequency with a focus on strengthening the social safety net and expanding public services.”

In accordance with the Radio Waves Act, the Ministry of Science and ICT annually receives future frequency demand from public institutions and establishes and implements a supply and demand plan to efficiently manage and supply public frequencies.
In 2019, 147 organizations, including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Korea Coast Guard, the National Fire Agency, and the Korea Meteorological Administration, submitted a total of 373 frequency use plans.

400Mbps communication speed achieved with next-generation satellite communication 'beam hopping'

Improving urban internet speeds with low-cost, ultra-high-speed 'wireless backhaul'

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
