Toshiba Launches High-Speed Communication Logic Output Photocoupler for PLCs

Toshiba announced on the 28th that it has shipped the 10Mbps high-speed communication logic output photocoupler 'TLP2363' for the 24V digital input interface of a programmable logic controller (PLC).

The TLP2363, when combined with appropriate resistors for current control, can be used to implement a 24 V digital input module compliant with the IEC 61131-2 Type 1 specification.
The new circuit suppresses chattering noise, so that the output appears distinctly low or high even for slow input signals with a rise and fall time of 60 seconds or less. Therefore, the waveform shaping circuit in the output section is not required, which can reduce the number of components.
Suitable for PLCs, measuring equipment, and control equipment, the TLP2363 has an operating temperature range of –40 to 105°C and a threshold input current minimum of 0.3 mA and maximum of 2.4 mA. The data transmission speed is typically 10 Mbps and can operate in 3.3 V/5 V supply voltage systems.
It is packaged with 5-pin SO6 and has a maximum height of 2.3 mm, so it can be freely placed on the PCB.

ST has enhanced the performance of the ST8500 PLC chipset, which is already being used in smart electricity meters and similar applications, by combining both connectivity features to enable communication with smart electricity meters via existing power cables or RF wavelengths. In cases where power cables have excessive noise unsuitable for PLC, or where regional regulations differ, equipment manufacturers can implement both wireless and PLC functionality using the ST8500.

Maxim has introduced the MAX20340, a bidirectional DC power line communication (PLC) IC. Low-power portable device and wearable designers can use the MAX20340 to reduce power communication interface size when connected to chargers.
