2019 Silicon Wafer Shipments Decline Year-on-Year Due to Weak Memory Market… Shipment Value Shows Recovering Trend

According to the latest report by the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), global silicon wafer shipments in 2019 decreased by 7% compared to the previous year, and shipment value also decreased by 2%.
Silicon wafer shipments in 2019 amounted to 11.81 billion square inches, a slight decrease from 12.732 billion square inches in 2018, and silicon wafer shipment value in 2019 was $11.15 billion, a slight decrease from $11.38 billion in the previous year.
The data cited in this announcement includes polished silicon wafers, such as virgin test wafers and epitaxial silicon wafers, but does not include silicon wafers used in solar-related applications.
Neil Weaver, Chairman of the SEMI Silicon Manufacturing Group (SMG) and Director of Product Development and Applications at Shin-Etsu Handotai America, stated, “Although silicon wafer shipments decreased last year due to the weakness in the memory market in 2019, shipment value showed signs of recovery.”quo; said.

SEMI는 전 세계 실리콘 웨이퍼 출하량이 4분기 연속 내림세를 보인다고 밝혔다. 2019년 3분기 전 세계 실리콘 웨이퍼 출하량은 29억3200만 제곱인치로, 2분기 29억8300만 제곱인치 1.7% 하락했다. 이는 전년 동기인 32억5500만 제곱인치 대비 약 9.9% 감소한 수치다. 신에츠 한도타이의 닐 위버 제품 개발 및 애플리케이션 담당 이사는 “지역별 무역 갈등과 세계 경제 침체로 실리콘 웨이퍼가 작년에 비해 낮은 수준으로 출하되고 있다”라고 말했다.
