STMicroelectronics Showcases Cutting-Edge Contactless Solutions at RFID/USN Korea 2012

• Introduction to the latest security and authentication, as well as various NFC-related product demos and technologies

September 24, 2012, Seoul – STMicroelectronics (hereinafter ST), a global semiconductor company providing various electronic applications, is participating in RFID/USN Korea 2012, held at COEX from the 25th to the 27th, to showcase its latest contactless products and technologies.

First, given the rapid growth in demand for NFC solutions in the healthcare, medical, and fitness markets, ST’s unique dual-interface EEPROM product is expected to attract attention. This product, which facilitates the transmission of critical information by linking with RFID readers such as NFC smartphones, enables bidirectional reading and writing over wired and wireless networks via low-power I2C interfaces or ISO15693. Equipped with a balanced combination of advantages—including advanced "energy harvesting" technology capable of self-supplying power using RF signals, cost efficiency, and ease of design—it will further aid in the development of applications that allow for easy monitoring of health information, such as blood pressure and body temperature, anytime and anywhere. ST plans to separately introduce the new dual-interface EEPROM product at the new product/solution presentation organized by the exhibition organizers on the 26th.

In addition to the new dual-interface EEPROM, ST plans to introduce NFC transceiver and controller products. These products offer excellent value for money among competitors and enable NFC functionality and secure connectivity in various applications. With the recent surge in interest in establishing payment systems on smartphones and tablets, this product is being praised for aligning well with the rapidly changing trends of the digital market. Its strengths lie in its ability to easily design products while securely implementing privacy protection and authentication systems. Furthermore, it can be utilized in various NFC applications such as transportation, smart metering, P2P, logical/physical access, and pairing. When combined with an MCU NFC transceiver, it is expected to perform well in markets beyond the mobile sector.

Regarding security and authentication issues, ST presents its cutting-edge security architecture, Aukey, and the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) product.

RFID/USN Korea is the only domestic exhibition for RFID/USN products and technologies. ST plans to actively utilize this exhibition not only as a venue to showcase its world-class new products and technologies, but also as a platform for communication where industry professionals can freely visit the booth to experience the products firsthand and exchange information.
