Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport improves safety through aviation data sharing

The government collects and analyzes safety data from aviation sites to fundamentally improve the causes threatening aviation safety.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the aviation industry signed an MOU to enhance aviation safety.
On February 21, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport signed an agreement with the relevant industry, including airlines and airport corporations, regarding the sharing, analysis, and utilization of aviation safety data to enhance aviation safety, and is responding to international aviation safety policies centered on multilateral information sharing cooperation for accident prevention.
Under the agreement, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the aviation industry will promote mutual sharing of safety data, linking the scope of data to be shared and methods for analysis and utilization, and operating a council aimed at enhancing safety.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to establish an aviation safety big data analysis system by 2023 that can improve safety vulnerable areas and fundamentally improve safety hazards in aviation sites through the analysis of shared data.
In addition, to address issues such as the exposure of employees' personal information caused by data sharing, a basis for information protection has been established in the Aviation Safety Act and will be implemented starting on the 28th.
Kim Sang-do, Deputy Minister for Aviation Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, “It is significant that an agreement to enhance aviation safety has been signed between the government and the aviation industry for the first time since the establishment of Korean Air Corporation in 1946,” adding, “Through this agreement, the level of aviation safety in our country will also improve even further.”"We expect it to be a success," he stated.

Starting in 2021, drones exceeding a maximum takeoff weight of 2kg must be registered with the aircraft authority, and operators must complete prior online training to fly drones exceeding 250g.
