Limelight Expands Network Egress Capacity by 70%

Limelight Networks announced on the 6th that it has expanded its network egress capacity by approximately 70% due to global traffic growth and the proliferation of OTT services.

Since January of last year, Limelight has increased its egress capacity to approximately 70 terabits per second (Tb) from 130 network points of presence (PoPs) worldwide.
Limelight has partnered with Edge Gravity to add new content delivery capabilities to its network of service providers in 19 locations across eight countries, including Thailand, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Australia, Turkey, and Malaysia.
Additionally, last year Limelight increased efficiency through software innovation and new server technology. For example, Limelight's new next-generation servers increase the average Mbps (megabits per second) delivered per watt by about 80%.
“Limelight is adding capacity globally to meet the growing demand as more media companies launch OTT services,” said Ersin Galioglu, Limelight’s vice president of strategic initiatives.
In addition to improved efficiency, Limelight reported a roughly 50% increase in its online traffic last year. These figures and demand stem from Limelight's participation in live and on-demand OTT launch projects for global media companies. These companies continue to rely on Limelight for network performance, global scale, and customer support.

Korea's First 100G-Class IPS for 5G Network Protection Developed
LG유플러스는 인텔, 윈스와 5G 네트워크 보호를 위한 100G급 대용량 침입방지시스템(Intrusion Prevention System; IPS)를 국내 최초로 개발했다고 밝혔다. IPS는 웜, 바이러스, DoS 공격 등 다양한 형태의 외부 공격을 탐지 및 차단해 네트워크를 보호하는 보안 장비다. 이번 개발은 해킹 공격과 같은 유해 트래픽으로부터 5G 네트워크를 안정적으로 보호하기 위해 이뤄졌다.

Keysight-Samsung Electronics Strengthen Cooperation in 5G DSS Technology Verification
키사이트가 삼성전자 시스템 LSI 사업부와 5G 모뎀에 사용되는 동적 스펙트럼 공유(DSS) 기술 검증을 위한 협력을 확대한다고 발표했다. DSS는 트래픽 수요에 따라 LTE와 5G NR 범위 간 동적 전환을 통해 저·중·고 주파수 대역에서 기존 스펙트럼 할당을 유연하게 활용할 수 있도록 지원한다. 키사이트의 5G 네트워크 테스트 솔루션을 사용하면 FR1, FR2 주파수 대역에서 NSA, SA 모드 모두에 대한 멀티 RAT 설계를 한번에 검증할 수 있다.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
