Ministry of Science and ICT Conducts Project to Strengthen Security for Core 5G+ Services
Development of a security model including service-specific convergence security measures


With the commercialization of 5G and the acceleration of ICT convergence, cybersecurity threats are spreading to traditional industries. As this can cause direct damage to the real economy as well as the lives and safety of the public, preemptive prevention is necessary.

The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) announced on the 18th that they will proceed with a security enhancement project for 5G+ core services (five major fields including smart factories, autonomous vehicles, smart cities, digital healthcare, and immersive content) as a follow-up measure to the 'Plan to Strengthen Convergence Security for 5G+ Core Services' announced on October 7 of last year.

This project diagnoses security threats by conducting device security tests and platform vulnerability checks for each 5G+ core service. Based on the results, security improvement measures for each core 5G+ service are prepared, and a security model containing methods for applying converged security technology to each service is developed.

A security living lab will be established at a site where convergence service facilities are concentrated, enabling convergence security users and companies to verify necessary security technologies and test the security of convergence service devices and platforms.

This is intended to identify industry-specific protected assets based on an accurate on-site understanding of the industrial structure and systems of each sector, analyze security vulnerabilities, and present protection technologies and countermeasures to respond to security threats.

Business briefing sessions will be held via KISA’s YouTube channel, ‘KISA118,’ starting Thursday, March 19. Procurement announcements for each project will be posted sequentially on the Public Procurement Service’s Nara Marketplace starting in April, following the YouTube briefing sessions.
