Autonomous shuttles expected to begin operating as early as the second quarter
LG Uplus announced on the 26th that it will embark on a self-driving shuttle service demonstration project with Chemtronics in Sejong Special Self-Governing City.

On the 25th, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) via a remote meeting and agreed to develop detailed cooperation measures, including the formation and operation of a working-level consultative group. Their ultimate goal is to demonstrate a low-speed, autonomous shuttle driving through a residential complex.
Through this agreement, LG U+ will provide a 5G network, dynamic precision maps, and high-precision positioning solutions for Sejong City's autonomous driving services. Chemtronics will focus on providing technical support, including V2X (Vehicle to Everything) stacks, hardware, and applications.
The two companies plan to complete the development and inspection of a system for operating an autonomous shuttle service soon, and finalize related quality testing and certification in April. Through this, Sejong City will be able to begin pilot operation of autonomous, low-speed shuttle services in residential complexes as early as the first half of the year.
Meanwhile, in July of last year, LG U+ attended a meeting with the mayors of Sejong City and the regulatory-free special zone, where it unveiled 5G technology to enhance autonomous driving safety and plans for autonomous driving business demonstrations. A month later, in August, it signed an MOU with Sejong City to promote autonomous driving services.
