Public Idea Contest to Increase Traffic Data Utilization

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is holding the 9th Transportation Data Utilization Contest to increase the utilization rate of transportation data and discover new transportation services based on the public's creative ideas.

Any South Korean citizen interested in planning ideas and discovering services in the transportation sector can participate in the contest, and winners will be awarded prizes as well as the opportunity to participate in the finals of the pan-government public data utilization startup competition.
A total of eight works will be awarded after the submitted works undergo a document review and final presentation evaluation by a judging committee composed of experts from industry, academia, and research institutes. The total prize money is 20 million won, and the Grand Prize will be awarded the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award and the Top Excellence Award, while the Excellence Awards will be awarded the Korea Expressway Corporation President's Award, the Korea Transportation Safety Authority Chairman's Award, and the Korea Transport Institute President's Award, respectively.
In addition, systematic follow-up measures to support entrepreneurship, such as various preferential interest rates and startup mentoring, are provided to award winners who wish to start a business.
Kim Yong-seong, Director General of the Road Bureau at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, “While there is a high consensus on the importance of data, the activation of data utilization remains slow. We hope that many people will participate in this contest and that it will serve as an opportunity to revitalize the data economy.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to open public and private data regarding traffic volume, speed, driving records, mileage, and rest area sales, while simultaneously implementing online and offline mentoring involving experts in various fields.
