PTC Helps Manufacturers Overcome COVID-19

PTC announced on the 30th that it will provide its augmented reality (AR) collaboration tool, Vuforia Chalk, to companies free of charge until June 30th.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, many companies are implementing remote work. However, the manufacturing industry faces challenges in remote work due to its nature of operating a customer base with supply chains located in diverse regions around the world.

In particular, it is not easy to provide remote services because on-site work such as the operation and maintenance of complex machines requires specialized personnel.

Vuforia Chalk is a collaborative tool that uses vision technology to accurately recognize 3D physical objects, digitally annotating them on mobile screens and enabling field technicians to perform processes under expert guidance.

By sharing the industrial site itself via video call, a digital twin can be created, providing all the guidance necessary to resolve technical issues in real time and sharing opinions to improve operational productivity.

PTC Korea CEO Park Hye-kyung said, “I hope that AR technology will become a new paradigm in the maintenance and on-site training areas, where face-to-face service was previously considered unavoidable.”
