The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) announced in its latest Materials Market Data Subscription (MMDS) report that the global semiconductor materials market size in 2019 was $52.1 billion, a 1.1% decrease from 2018.

According to SEMI data, front-end materials decreased from $33 billion in 2018 to approximately $32.8 billion in 2019, while packaging materials decreased by 2.3% from $19.7 billion in 2018 to approximately $19.2 billion in 2019. The only materials that increased in 2019 were substrates and other packaging materials.

Taiwan's semiconductor materials market reached $11.3 billion, maintaining its position as the largest market for the tenth consecutive year, fueled by its strengths in large-scale foundries and advanced packaging technologies. South Korea maintained its second-place position in 2019, following its 2018 performance. China, the only country to experience market growth in 2019, ranked third. Other regions showed similar or slightly lower figures than in 2018.

Meanwhile, SEMI's MMDS provides seven years of historical data on semiconductor materials market sales and a two-year outlook, including quarterly sales by segment for seven regions (Taiwan, Korea, China, Japan, North America, Europe, and Rest of the World). It also provides data on silicon shipments, photoresists, photoresist ancillaries, semiconductor gases, and leadframes.
