Supports configurations that maximize the use of the 6GHz band


ON Semiconductor today unveiled its new QCS-AX2 family of products supporting the 6GHz frequency band based on the Wi-Fi 6E standard.

The product family is optimized for data-intensive Wi-Fi applications such as access points, gateways, and mesh networking solutions in dense environments or remote areas.

The QCS-AX2 family is based on an integrated baseband and RF architecture that supports key Wi-Fi 6E features such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Access (OFDMA), advanced Multi-User Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO), 160MHz channel support, and SmartScan channel selection.

△QCS-AX2-A12, which belongs to the QCS-AX2 product line, supports adaptive MIMO technology in 8x8 or 4x4 configurations with 3 bands (6GHz/5GHz/2.4GHz), △QCS-AX2-T12 supports simultaneous 4x4 configurations for 3 bands for high-performance cost-effective router solutions, and △QCS-AX2-T8 supports 3-band simultaneous 8-stream configurations for mesh nodes and mainstream access points.

ON Semiconductor is currently sampling the QCS-AX2 solution to customers.


The 6GHz band will accelerate the development of Wi-Fi 6 applications.
The Federal Communications Commission estimates that the opening of the 6GHz band in the US later this year will free up up to 1,200MHz of new spectrum for Wi-Fi and other unlicensed applications. With roughly five times more spectrum than the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands combined, the 6GHz band is accelerating the development of next-generation Wi-Fi 6 applications.

Because it will take time to build a 6GHz client ecosystem, Wi-Fi infrastructure devices such as gateways, routers, and access points will need to continue supporting existing dual-band (2.4GHz/5GHz) clients. Furthermore, infrastructure applications such as 6GHz backhaul between gateways and mesh nodes are expected to drive deployment.

ON Semiconductor's Wi-Fi 6E solution is designed to support mainstream 6GHz applications while also enabling the transition to the 6GHz band based on Adaptive MIMO.

Wi-Fi 6E infrastructure devices with Adaptive MIMO technology enable the network to operate in either the 5GHz or 6GHz band depending on the customers present on the subscriber's home network, maximizing performance, coverage, and utilization.

The QCS-AX2 family provides connectivity to multiple devices required by applications, even in crowded environments.
