Equinix Launches SDN-Based Cloud Interconnection Service

Easy collaboration with companies that move into the SL1 IBX data center
On the 22nd, Equinix launched Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric™ (ECX Fabric™) in Korea. Equinix Fabric is an on-demand, software-defined networking (SDN)-based interconnection service.
Through a self-service portal user interface or API, enterprises can connect directly to cloud providers such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and Google Cloud through ECX Fabric on Platform Equinix®.
Additionally, you will have access to a broad ecosystem of network service providers housed in the SL1 International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center in Seoul, enabling you to cost-effectively build your infrastructure anywhere in the world. We also offer Cross Connect service, which provides one-to-one physical cable connection between two companies housed in Equinix IBX data centers.
Currently, six telecommunication companies, including Dreamline, KT, LG Uplus, Samsung SDS, Sejong Telecom, and SK Broadband, have moved into SL1, which opened in August 2019.
“With the ECX Fabric showcased at SL1, global enterprises planning domestic operations or Korean companies looking to expand their global presence can now privately interconnect to major service providers from anywhere, on top of our global digital infrastructure,” said Jang Hye-deok, Equinix Korea Country Manager.
“ECX Fabric will support a range of connectivity options, from single private or public to hybrid multicloud connectivity, enabling enterprises to access anywhere in the world on demand,” he said.
According to the Ministry of Science and ICT, the domestic cloud market is expected to grow to KRW 1.3 trillion in 2021. In a survey conducted by market research firm Vanson Bourne, 46% of domestic companies responded that they plan to introduce hybrid multi-cloud within 1-2 years. In addition, it was found that the hybrid cloud and multi-cloud usage rates will increase by 46% and 11%, respectively, in five years.
As of Q4 2019, more than 2,000 customers worldwide have deployed over 22,500 virtual connections with ECX Fabric.

Dell Exclusively Supplies Big Switch SDN Solution… Accelerating Targeting of Domestic Open Networking Market

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
