Additional issue data released through the public data portal


The National Information Society Agency (NIA) announced on the 28th that it will additionally open data for overcoming COVID-19 as issue data through the public data portal in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, and the Rural Development Administration.

This release is intended to prepare for the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, and follows the initial data release (data on screening clinics and safe hospitals, and data on public mask sales). In addition to comprehensive information on COVID-19, public data related to livelihood support measures (by ministry and local government) and public data necessary for the daily lives of citizens (overseas entry and exit, safety, psychological counseling, online education, etc.) have also been released.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare has released data on COVID-19 outbreaks and recoveries in the form of an open API (Application Program Interface). While COVID-19 statistics have been disclosed through relevant websites and press releases, private developers have been experiencing difficulties in converting these data into data and utilizing and analyzing them, and have requested the NIA to open the data.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Health and Welfare has opened an open API to enable automatic collection of daily statistics on confirmed and tested COVID-19 cases by region, age group, and gender, as well as information on overseas outbreaks. Furthermore, the Ministry of Health and Welfare has provided information on the facilities of its Mental Health Counseling Center to help overcome the "Corona Blues," a depressive symptom caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

△The Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided the latest safety news by country and region, including overseas flights and immigration related to COVID-19; △The Ministry of Education provided online education-related data, such as online learning content and open lecture information; △The Rural Development Administration provided data on agricultural products that strengthen immunity; and △The Ministry of the Interior and Safety provided a comprehensive summary of various livelihood and economic support measures taken by the government and local governments to overcome COVID-19.

Meanwhile, international organizations such as the OECD have recognized the importance of public data in overcoming COVID-19 and are proposing sharing related public data among member countries. The Korean government also plans to share Korea's current situation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the National Institute of International Affairs (NIA).
