Fostering and supporting the Accelerator User Council
Establishment of related research and industrial infrastructure within the site


The Ministry of Science and ICT, North Chungcheong Province, and Cheongju City signed a business agreement on the construction of a multipurpose synchrotron accelerator on the 21st.

This agreement was reached based on the recognition that a close cooperative system is necessary for the early construction of a multi-purpose synchrotron accelerator as a research base for securing advanced industrial technologies and leading-edge basic and source research.

Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the three institutions agreed to cooperate on securing and developing the site, fostering and supporting the accelerator user council, establishing a foundation for related research and industry within the site, and creating residential and cultural spaces for accelerator personnel.

To this end, it was decided to form a government-local government council to maintain constant information exchange and cooperation, and to further specify details of cooperation regarding the development of related industries and the creation of clusters.

Minister Choi Ki-young of the Ministry of Science and ICT stated, “The construction of the Multipurpose Synchrotron Radiation Accelerator is a policy aimed at enhancing competitiveness in future advanced industries, and we will do our best to ensure it proceeds without setbacks in cooperation with local governments and related agencies.”

Cheongju was finally selected on the 8th of this month as the site for the construction of a new multi-purpose synchrotron accelerator.
