STMicroelectronics Launches New OP Amp for Next-Generation Sensor Electronics
October 23, 2012, Seoul – STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company providing a wide range of electronic applications, has unveiled the TSX56 series, a next-generation IC product utilizing advanced manufacturing processes. This new product is expected to simplify sensor design for various applications ranging from automotive electronics to smart buildings and industrial control, while also improving accuracy and saving energy.
As a small amplifier (OP amp) for conditioning very small sensor signals, it is a product developed in-house by ST using a state-of-the-art 16V CMOS manufacturing process. It offers superior long-term stability and accuracy compared to existing devices. Because this process enables the implementation of small die sizes, the mounting package can also be made ultra-small. These OP amps also consume extremely low power, making them ideal for battery or solar-powered devices.
It features enhanced electrostatic discharge protection up to 4kV and can operate over a wide temperature range from -40°C to 125°C, enabling operation in harsh industrial and automotive environments. ST plans to release an automotive-certified version of this device in 2013.
The TSX561, TSX562, and TSX564 contain one, two, and four OP amps, respectively, and can operate over a wide supply voltage range from 3V to 16V, allowing them to be used with industry-standard supply voltages such as 3V, 5V, 12V, or ±5V. With the addition of these new products to ST’s diverse OP amp portfolio, designs will have a wider range of options regarding operating voltage, precision characteristics, gain-bandwidth product, and power consumption. This expansion of options is also available in the TSV5 series, which delivers similar performance in 5V operation, and the 10V TS94 series, which consumes only 1.2 µA of power in low-speed applications up to 10kHz.
Key Features of the TSX56 Series:
• Input offset voltage (max): 600 µV
• Input bias current: 1 pA
• Static current (standard): 240 µA (at 5V)
• Gain Bandwidth Class (Standard): 900 kHz
• Package Options:
SOT23-5 (TSX561 Single)
DFN8 2 x 2mm, MiniSO-8 (TSX562 Dual)
QFN16 3 x 3mm, TSSOP14 (TSX564 quad)
The TSX56 series is currently in mass production and is priced at $0.50 for a configuration/package for orders of 1,000 units. Other pricing options can be requested for larger orders.
