LG Uplus and GS E&C Integrate ICT into Construction Process
Joining hands for smart construction technology verification and commercialization

5G technology is being applied to construction sites. As a result, B2B applications for 5G technology are expected to increase.

LG Uplus announced on the 28th that it had signed a business agreement with GS E&C regarding the verification and commercialization of wireless communication-based smart construction technology.

This collaboration aims to verify smart construction technologies that integrate ICT into the entire construction process, from groundbreaking to completion, in order to improve safety and productivity in the construction sector, and to promote their commercialization.

Specifically, they will cooperate on ▲establishing an AI video analysis-based safety management system ▲setting up wireless communication (5G/LTE) infrastructure specialized for construction sites ▲verifying and commercializing construction safety solutions.

In particular, both companies focus on ensuring safety at construction sites based on AI technology and wireless communication infrastructure. They install CCTVs throughout the site and use AI to analyze the movements of workers and heavy equipment by recognizing people and objects from the video feed.

Based on the analysis results, it can determine risks such as collisions or being hit by objects, thereby enhancing safety. By utilizing video analysis and various IoT sensors, the movements of heavy equipment such as tower cranes and clamshells, as well as the location of workers, can be predicted, thereby preventing potential accidents.

This allows for the operation of an accident prevention system 24 hours a day without blind spots, which is expected to reduce serious accidents and casualties that may occur at construction sites.
In addition, LG Uplus builds site-specific wireless communication infrastructure through optimized design of communication conduits and base station locations to provide seamless communication services at unconventional construction sites.

We plan to apply 5G communication to sections that transmit large amounts of data, such as AI video analysis, and LTE communication to sections that transmit general data.

Under the agreement, the two companies plan to select pilot sites to apply smart construction technology and begin full-scale testing starting this September. Following this, they intend to analyze the operational effectiveness by the end of the year and commercialize the technology next year.
