Despite being hit hard by COVID-19, China's semiconductor equipment sales in the first quarter of this year increased significantly compared to the same period last year.

The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) announced on the 3rd that global semiconductor equipment sales in the first quarter of 2020 recorded $15.57 billion, a 13% increase from the same period last year.

By region, Taiwan recorded approximately $4.02 billion, a 6% increase from the same period last year, and maintained its position as the top region for semiconductor equipment sales.

China ranked second, recording $3.5 billion, a 48% increase from the same period last year.

South Korea, which ranked second in market size in the first quarter of 2019, recorded $3.36 billion in semiconductor equipment sales in the first quarter of this year, a 16% increase from the same period last year, but fell to third place in terms of sales volume by region.

Semiconductor equipment sales in other regions for the first quarter of 2020 were $1.93 billion in North America, $1.68 billion in Japan, $640 million in Europe, and $440 million in other regions.>
