SK Telecom enters the video medical equipment market.

SK Telecom announced on the 5th that it has become the second largest shareholder of medical equipment company Nanox and plans to secure exclusive domestic and international business rights and establish a production plant in Korea.

Headquartered in Israel, NanoX is the only company close to commercializing and mass-producing a semiconductor-based digital X-ray generator. Semiconductor-based digital X-ray is a medical technology that transforms filament-based analog X-ray imaging into a digital form that leverages the nanoscale properties of semiconductors.

NanoX is developing 'Nanox.ARC', a next-generation imaging device based on digital X-ray and CT, and is simultaneously undergoing the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval process and preparing for mass production of the product.

NanoXArc uses a silicon semiconductor the size of a fingernail. It controls approximately 100 million nano-electron emitters within the semiconductor with digital signals to generate electrons in a fraction of a second, which are then converted into X-rays for imaging. Officials explained that the image quality is clearer than that of conventional X-rays and that it can take pictures up to 30 times faster.

Additionally, painless, non-contact X-ray imaging is possible, reducing radiation exposure time by 1/30th. With a cost per scan of only 10%, it could significantly reduce the cost of X-ray imaging in small clinics or countries with high medical burdens.

An SK Telecom official said that they are planning next-generation medical, security, and industrial services using digital X-ray technology together with SK Group's ICT family companies, including SK Hynix, ADT Caps, and Invites Healthcare.

In addition to its equity investment in NanoX, SK Telecom is also directly involved in the business. SK Telecom has secured exclusive rights to NanoX's next-generation imaging equipment for Korea and Vietnam. The company plans to supply the equipment after obtaining approval from the respective countries. Furthermore, it is discussing Korea as a global production base for next-generation equipment.
