Ministry of Science and ICT to Create Open MyData Ecosystem


The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 11th that it has selected eight MyData demonstration service projects in six fields, including medical, financial, and public sectors.

The Ministry of Science and ICT has been promoting the MyData project since last year to establish a personal data utilization system centered on the data subject.

This year, we are promoting pilot services based on a MyData platform that allows individuals to collect, store, manage, and provide their own information to third parties. Through this, we plan to strengthen individuals' right to control their information and create an open MyData ecosystem where any interested company can participate.

Thirty-one consortia consisting of more than 200 companies and others applied for the demonstration service project call that has been ongoing since last March, and finally, eight projects in six fields including medical, financial, public, transportation, daily life, and small business owners were selected.

The Peaceis Consortium (Medical) is building a MyData platform that allows individuals to integrate and manage data such as health checkup results and prescriptions held by Seoul and Incheon St. Mary's Hospitals and Kyung Hee Medical Center, and links it with various services including self-health management (personalized exercise and nutrition management, medication guidance, etc.).

Companies analyze individuals' mental health status through health checkup and prescription data to provide various self-health management services, such as mental health management services and the development and provision of customized diets tailored to the characteristics of specific diseases.

The NongHyup Consortium (Finance) establishes an open platform that integrates and manages financial (savings and investment history, account history) and non-financial (consumption history) data within a personal information storage on smartphones, and enables sharing this data with companies that request it.

Individuals can provide and utilize their financial and non-financial data through the platform and receive corresponding rewards (NH Points), while companies can utilize individuals' financial and non-financial data for personalized financial product recommendation services. It becomes possible to develop and provide various data utilization services, including the above.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government Consortium (Public) will build a transportation MyData platform that allows individuals to check their public transportation usage history, including buses, subways, and taxis within Seoul, at a glance and select safe public transportation methods.

Individuals provide their transportation usage history to the Seoul Metropolitan Government through the platform to receive rewards (tokens), and it is expected that the city will be able to utilize this data to improve public services, such as managing public transportation congestion and disease control.

In addition, there are plans to establish pilot services for sector-specific MyData platforms, such as a MyData platform capable of integrating and utilizing vehicle data including driving habits, refueling, and maintenance (Fintech Consortium), and a MyData platform for small business owners that integrates data on commercial rent and key money and can be utilized for loans (Korea Federation of Small Business Consortium).

An official from the Ministry of Science and ICT stated, “We have entered the era of MyData platforms in earnest, where individuals proactively manage, distribute, and utilize their own data,” adding, “Through the sector-specific MyData platforms being attempted in this pilot project, individuals are expected to receive compensation for the use of their data, and companies are expected to create new data business opportunities.”
