TI Launches New 28V, 500mA Step-Down Converter Offering Highest Efficiency Under Light Load Conditions
TI Korea (CEO Kent Jeon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) October 29, 2012 – TI (CEO Kent Jeon) has released a synchronous 28V, 500mA step-down DC/DC converter capable of operating at less than 5μA in “sleep” mode. The latest TPS62175 supports ultra-low power microcontrollers operating in 12V, 15V, and 24V applications, such as industrial sensors, smart meters, medical, and wireless power transmission designs, while maintaining high efficiency during light-load operation.
Key Features and Advantages of the TPS62175
• Supports maximum efficiency under light load conditions: Achieves over 70% efficiency at 100µA, operates with a quiescent current of 5µA or less in sleep mode and 20µA in normal mode.
• Support for microcontroller systems providing extreme standby power requirements and output voltage accuracy: Support for TI's Stellaris® ARM® Cortex™-M4F microcontroller series
• Ultra-small solution: Requires only three cost-effective external components and is provided in an ultra-small 2mm x 3mm WSON package with a total solution size of just 68mm².
DCS-Control technology
The TPS62175 features TI's patented DCS-Control regulation topology technology. DCS-Control regulation topology technology integrates hysteretic and voltage mode control functions into a single device, enabling excellent performance on AC lines and under transient loads. DCS-Control also provides DC accuracy for the entire voltage feedback loop and supports seamless, perfect switching between high loads and light loads (power saving).
Supply timing and price
The TPS62175 is available in a 10-pin 2mm x 3mm WSON package at $0.95 per unit in 1,000-unit quantities. Designers can order the TPS62175EVM-098 evaluation module to evaluate the device's operation and functionality when converting voltages from 4.75V to 28V to a regulated 3.3V output voltage.
