MOU to Improve Mobile Manipulator Safety


LG Electronics and the Korea Robot Industry Advancement Institute (KIRIA) signed a business agreement on the 29th at KIRIA in Buk-gu, Daegu to improve the safety of mobile manipulators.

Through this agreement, both parties will cooperate in the following areas: △developing technology to ensure the safety of mobile manipulators, △establishing an environment for safety verification, and △developing safety evaluation methods.

Mobile manipulators combine vertical, multi-joint robots, which perform movements similar to human arms, with autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). They autonomously move around production lines within factories, performing various tasks such as transporting parts, assembling products, and inspecting them.

Both parties expect that this agreement will contribute to the activation of smart factories by laying the foundation for the safe use of mobile manipulators in industrial settings.

KIRIA Certification and Evaluation Division Director Woo Jong-un said, “With the demand for robots in industrial sites rapidly increasing due to COVID-19, we anticipate that this technical cooperation with LG Electronics to ensure safety will lead to the distribution and expansion of safer products in industrial sites.”
