Live encoding UHD video into HEVC standard
Streaming available via LTE and 5G networks


Due to the spread of COVID-19, the demand for online classes in educational settings is increasing. Accordingly, Advantech announced on the 28th that it is supplying video encoding and streaming modules optimized for online broadcasting.

Advantech's VEGA-2000 series is a cost-effective, compact module capable of capturing, encoding, and streaming high-quality content over various networks, including Ethernet, Wi-Fi, LTE, and 5G.

Developers can create live streaming devices that support SD, FHD, and UHD formats and HEVC main encoding by utilizing various VEGA-2000 series modules.

The VEGA-2000/2001 module can acquire video directly from a camera via SDI or HDMI input. The acquired video can be live encoded into H.264 (AVC)/H.265 (HEVC) standards through an integrated low-power SoC that consumes less than 5W of power.

Hardware-based encoding extends battery life and simplifies the solution. Encoded video can be streamed via the built-in GbE or USB port, and an LTE/5G adapter can also be connected to the USB output for direct streaming over a wireless network.

The VEGA-2000M/2002 is a low-power, compact module that offers high portability and convenience. It provides a live encoder configuration for social media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook, and offers a developer-friendly HTTP interface. Additionally, it can be controlled remotely using a web-based CGI command set. It also supports common internet video streaming protocols such as RTSP, RTMP, and HLS.

Jeong Jun-kyo, CEO of Advantech Korea, stated, “The demand for building hardware platforms for video communication has increased due to COVID-19,” adding that “consequently, we are introducing Advantech’s online broadcasting modules and computing platforms, which have been verified overseas, to the domestic market.”
