Infineon's 600V CoolMOS™ P6 MOSFET offers best-in-class price-to-performance ratio
Published2012.11.14 17:06November 14, 2012, Seoul - Infineon Technologies (Korea CEO Lee Seung-soo) has launched the new 600V CoolMOS™ P6 MOSFET product family. The new P6 product family is designed to improve system efficiency while enhancing ease of use, thereby bridging the gap between CoolMOS™ CP technology, which focuses on delivering superior performance, and CoolMOS™ C6 or E6 technology, which emphasizes ease of use. P6 technology delivers optimal performance in hard and soft switching PFC (Power Factor Correction) and PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) topologies for applications such as servers, telecom rectifiers, PC silver boxes, and gaming consoles. Furthermore, the CoolMOS™ P6 product family provides the best price-to-performance ratio among superjunction MOSFET technologies available in the market.
Jan-Willem Reynaerts, who oversees Infineon Technologies' high-voltage power conversion product division, stated, "Through innovative new CoolMOS™ P6 technology, Infineon provides customers with ways to improve conversion efficiency while reducing system development time." He added, "The P6 product characteristics, combined with the proven quality and reliability of CoolMOS™ in the market, further strengthen Infineon's leadership in the power conversion sector."
The CoolMOS™ P6 product family delivers improved efficiency under light load conditions with low gate charge (Qg) characteristics. Additionally, with higher threshold voltage (Vth), it supports faster turn-off operation, improving efficiency in soft switching applications. Thanks to the robust body diode, P6 products can be used in both hard switching PFC stages as well as soft switching PWM stages (for example, LLC).
The optimized integrated gate resistor (Rg) value ensures optimal balance in control performance during switching operation as well as in efficiency and ease of use. The voltage slope (dv/dt) increased from 50V/ns to 100V/ns compared to previous generations ensures high robustness and improved switching efficiency.
Availability
Samples of the 600V CoolMOS™ P6 product are scheduled to be provided in the fourth quarter of 2012.
