Xilinx Korea (Branch Manager Ahn Hung-sik) November 14, 2012 – Xilinx announced its 20nm portfolio strategy, which includes the next-generation 8 Series All Programmable FPGAs and second-generation 3D ICs and SoCs. The 20nm portfolio is built on next-generation technology already proven at 28nm, delivering superior system performance, low power consumption, and programmable system integration. Optimized with Xilinx's Vivado™ Design Suite, the 20nm portfolio offers the highest productivity and quality, enables deployment across diverse next-generation systems, and provides the most powerful alternative to ASICs and ASSPs.
Xilinx President and CEO Moshe Gavrielov stated, "The 20nm portfolio will address the exponentially growing demand for programmable solutions. Xilinx is focusing on optimizing the 20nm All Programmable portfolio to address requirements for increasingly 'smart' highly integrated broadband systems. These applications include:
• Intelligent Nx100G–400G wired networks
• LTE™ advanced wireless base stations with smart technologies, adaptive antennas, cognitive radio technologies, and backhaul equipment
• High-performance, low-power data center solid state storage, intelligent networking, and acceleration of highly integrated low-latency applications
• Next-generation displays, professional cameras, factory automation, advanced automotive driver assistance systems, and image/video processing for surveillance cameras
• State-of-the-art connectivity for virtually all applications

Next-Generation All Programmable FPGAs
The 20nm 8 Series All Programmable FPGAs deliver 2x faster performance and 1.5x to 2x greater integrated functionality compared to previous products, while consuming half the power. They are suited for next-generation applications such as Nx100G wired networks, wireless L1 baseband coprocessing for LTE Advanced wireless networks, next-generation system acceleration, and connectivity. Key improvements include:
• Over 90% resource utilization achieved through structural improvements, with routability-optimized algorithms providing 4x faster design closure
• Next-generation adaptive equalization, low jitter, lowest power consumption, system optimization, and high-speed transceivers
• Substantially improved digital signal processing and on-chip memory performance with 2x extended memory bandwidth
Second-Generation All Programmable 3D ICs
Xilinx's second-generation 3D ICs feature both homogeneous and heterogeneous configurations. High-growth applications include Nx100G/400G smart networks, top-of-rack (ToR) data center switches, and highly integrated ASIC prototyping. Key improvements include:
• Two-level 3D connectivity reflecting industry-standard interfaces and 5x faster die-to-die bandwidth
• 1.5x to 2x minimum logic capacity expansion, 4x transceiver bandwidth expansion, integrated Interlaken connectivity with broadband memory, traffic management, and packet processing IP
• 2x improved integration level and internal/external routing capacity with optimized design tools, automatic design closure, and scalable algorithms
Second-Generation All Programmable SoC
Xilinx's 20nm All Programmable SoC integrates FPGA fabric and heterogeneous processing cores to accelerate key processing functions. High-growth applications include heterogeneous wireless networks, baseband acceleration and backhaul, data center security appliances, and embedded vision applications in automotive, industrial, scientific, medical, aerospace, and defense markets. Key improvements include:
• Improved bandwidth between processing system and FPGA fabric enabling acceleration of key processing functions
• Next-generation I/O, transceiver, and DDR memory interface capabilities
• Latest SoC-level power management and next-generation block-level power optimization
• Next-generation security enhancements based on improvements presented at the ARM® Techcon® 2012 conference
Vivado Design Suite and Optimization
The Vivado Design Suite, introduced alongside Xilinx's innovative 28nm 7 Series FPGA portfolio, is optimized for the 20nm product family. Key features and advantages include:
• 20% improved LUT utilization, up to 3x performance improvement, up to 35% power consumption reduction
• Up to 4x improved design productivity through faster hierarchical planning, analysis features, route engine, and incremental ECO (engineering change order) support
• Up to 5x improved integration time through IP core reuse using Vivado Design Suite IP Integrator and Packager, and over 100x improvement in verification time when using C-based design flows
