Support for early-stage development of PAM4 PCIe 6.0 equipment


Anritsu Corporation announced on the 14th that it has released enhanced functions for its Signal Quality Analyzer-R MP1900A PCI Express1 RX.

The Signal Quality Analyzer-R MP1900A series is a multi-channel bit error rate (BER) measurement instrument required for designing and testing high-speed bus interfaces such as PCI Express 4.0/5.0, USB3.2/4, Thunderbolt, and next-generation network interfaces such as 400 and 800GbE.
This enhanced analyzer feature upgrades the high-quality waveform performance of the PAM4 PPG MU196020A to the latest high-speed, high-capacity PCI Express standard for PCIe RX testing. As a result, customers planning and developing PCIe Gen 6 (PAM4 32 Gbaud) products for data centers and other applications now have an all-in-one measurement instrument that covers current PCIe 3.0/4.0/5.0 receiver testing as well as future PCIe Gen 6 upgrades.

Testing is also underway for fifth-generation (5G) communications network systems that meet enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (URLLC), and machine type communications (MTC) requirements.

This paradigm shift is increasing the demands of data centers and laying the foundation for technological innovation to process large amounts of data at high speeds. Driven by this demand, data centers are planning to introduce and implement compliance testing for PCIe 5.0 interfaces for transmission equipment, servers, storage, and more by the end of 2020. Meanwhile, PCI-SIG has already begun planning and defining the next-generation PCIe 6.0 standard, which utilizes PAM4 32-Gbaud technology.

These added features support the early development of PAM4 PCIe 6.0 devices using the PAM4 PPG MU196020A, which delivers high-quality data output performance. Furthermore, when used in conjunction with the existing SI ED MU195040A PCI solution, it supports PCIe 3.0/4.0/5.0 compliance testing as an all-in-one solution for PAM4 performance evaluation and compliance testing.
