Available in STMicroelectronics’ SPEAr® processor family
Mentor Graphics’ Inflexion Technology – Accelerating Rapid UI Development
Korea, July 27, 2011 – STMicroelectronics ( www.st.com ), a world-leading integrated semiconductor company and a global leader in system-on-chip technology, announced that Mentor® Embedded Inflexion™ UI (User Interface) software is now available on its SPEAr (Structured Processor Enhanced Architecture) processor family based on ARM® core technology. The availability of Mentor Graphics’ Inflexion UI on the SPEAr processor family enables the rapid implementation of rich and dynamic 2D and 3D UIs to differentiate products for targeted embedded control applications across a diverse range of markets, from computer peripherals and communications to industrial automation.

"Loris Valenti, Group Vice President and General Manager of the Computer Systems Business Unit at STMicroelectronics, stated, 'With the availability of Mentor Embedded Inflexion UI with ST's SPEAr embedded microprocessor family, users can now quickly implement dynamic UIs with SPEAr processors.'" "Inflexion UI is currently available on ARM A9-based SPEAr 320 processor products, and will soon be available on the new SPEAr1300 ARM-CortexA9 family with powerful Open GL/ES graphics acceleration capabilities," he said.
Mentor Embedded Inflexion UI is used by numerous embedded system developers worldwide and significantly reduces development time, enabling developers to rapidly implement excellent UIs without compromising quality. From rich and dynamic 3D electronic device UIs to professional 2D UIs for industrial and medical products, Inflexion UI software allows developers to quickly create UIs using drag-and-drop techniques with the Inflexion UI Express PC tool, and execute these UIs using an efficient and powerful engine. Widely used Inflexion products are available on Android, Linux, and Nucleus.
Glenn Perry, General Manager of Embedded Software at Mentor Graphics, stated, "Inflexion, available on SPEAr embedded microprocessors, significantly reduces UI development time by combining Mentor Graphics' excellent tools with well-designed processors. As the SPEAr processor family targets a diverse range of applications—from wireless access devices, printers, and security systems to medical and diagnostic equipment—implementing customized UIs for the human-machine interface (HMI) is of paramount importance."
By utilizing SPEAr microprocessors, equipment manufacturers can develop complex yet flexible digital engines in very short times and at very low costs compared to competing solutions. ST’s SPEAr embedded microprocessors, manufactured using advanced low-power 90nm, 65nm, and 55nm HCMOS (high-speed CMOS) process technologies, provide high levels of computing and connectivity performance. These products integrate memory interfaces with one or two advanced ARM926 processor cores and dual Cortex A9 cores, and provide multiple IP blocks related to connectivity, communication, and audio/video functions for use in various applications.
