Xilinx Accelerates Industrial Automation Productivity with Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC
Xilinx Korea (Branch Director Ahn Heung-sik) November 27, 2012 – Xilinx has launched a new all programmable solution that addresses the challenges of advanced motion control, real-time industrial networking, machine vision, and other next-generation industrial automation applications. Xilinx's hardware and software technology for system development centered on the Zynq™-7000 All Programmable SoC increases design productivity while enhancing system performance and reliability through single-chip system integration.
Xilinx will participate in SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2012, a prominent European conference and exhibition on industrial automation (Hall 6, Stand 200), to showcase its latest solutions. All products displayed at the exhibition are available immediately.
Yousef Khalilollahi, Senior Director of Business Unit at Xilinx, stated, "The industrial automation market is focused on increasing OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) to raise productivity and lower total cost of ownership while meeting reliability requirements and enhancing system performance." He added, "To meet these demands, faster computing power, higher data bandwidth, real-time monitoring, and system-level integration are required. Xilinx's Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC and FPGA enable system designers to achieve these stringent design goals that were previously impossible even with conventional multi-chip approaches."
The Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC architecture seamlessly integrates a feature-rich ARM® dual-core Cortex™-A9 MPCore™ processing system supporting ARM TrustZone® security technology within Xilinx's feature-rich 28nm programmable logic into a single device. The Zynq-7000 device targets a wide range of applications across various markets with strict reliability and dependability requirements, including industrial, scientific, medical, aerospace and defense, and automotive applications. Industrial customers are already adopting the Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC for system integration, performance enhancement, and BOM cost reduction.
Xilinx at SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2012
At SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2012, visitors will see the Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC operating in industrial automation systems such as motion control and real-time networking. QDESYS, a member of the Xilinx Alliance Program, will demonstrate high-performance motion control applications on the Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC intelligent drive platform at Xilinx's booth. Advanced motor control and motion control applications implementing gigabit Ethernet networking and innovative low-EMI power modulation schemes will also be showcased. Through a graphical user interface (GUI) and powerful COM (Component Object Model) interface for Windows applications, designers can achieve deeper analysis and control of motion systems and attain higher performance than traditional ASSP solutions.
Visitors will also be able to observe the implementation of the POWERLINK networking protocol utilizing the programmable system integration capabilities of the Zynq-7000 family. The open source IP core and source code for the Zynq-7000 device can be found on the Ethernet POWERLINK Consortium website.
The Avnet motor control FMC module combined with Xilinx Spartan®-6 FPGA Industrial Ethernet Kit will showcase Xilinx's exclusively provided latest dual-core lockstep motor control application. This enables designers to achieve IEC61508 functional safety certification for their systems.
Finally, SOC-e, a member of the Xilinx Alliance Program, will demonstrate HSR (High Availability Seamless Redundancy) Ethernet communication based on Spartan-6 FPGA in accordance with IEC62439.
