Three Companies Collaborate to Accelerate the Energy Paradigm Shift
A 15% reduction in the carbon footprint of the entire oil and gas industry is projected.


Schneider Electric announced on the 4th that it will conduct joint research with American energy specialists McDermott International and io Consulting to achieve carbon neutrality in the upstream oil and natural gas market.
The three companies plan to explore and develop new concepts based on offshore structure reference cases.

This study supports efforts to reduce carbon emissions within the production and conversion of oil and gas. The International Energy Agency estimates that the carbon emissions reduced through this program will account for approximately 15% of the total carbon footprint of the oil and gas industry.

Through this collaboration, the three companies plan to demonstrate what is achievable with current technologies and what new technologies are required to achieve these goals, and to define the break-even carbon price for net-zero facilities now and in the future. The carbon pricing and proof-of-concept discovered by the researchers will be applied to all regions and projects in the future, taking into account local infrastructure and environmental policies.

Additionally, we define techniques to rank areas by maturity, investment, and impact, enabling companies to make informed decisions when prioritizing carbon reduction efforts.

“By combining the strengths of our three groups, we will deliver solutions that support the industry’s shared goal of reducing carbon impact across our customers’ value chains,” said Samick McKerzy, senior vice president of McDermott’s Projects Group.

Meanwhile, the results of this collaboration are scheduled to be announced within the year in the joint research section of 'Net-zero Facilities - Upstream'.
