Launch of the LaSAR Alliance to Promote
STMicroelectronics announced today that it has established the LaSAR™ Alliance (Laser Scanning for Augmented Reality) with Mega1, Osram, Dispelix, and Applied Materials to accelerate the development of augmented reality (AR) smart glass solutions.

Smart glasses must balance ultra-small size, low power operation, excellent field-of-view, and a wide eyebox.
As its first activity, the LaSAR Alliance plans to integrate ST's MEMS micromirror platform and BIPOLAR-CMOS-DMOS (BCD) technology, Osram's ultra-compact light sources, and Applied Materials and Disfelix's waveguide elements into the MegaOne's miniature optical light engine.
Going forward, the LaSAR Alliance plans to develop, market, and support all key technology elements required for the development, adoption, and mass production of AR-enabled smart glass applications.
