Element14 to Supply Micro:bit V2 for Education

On the 26th, element14 began selling the BBC micro:bit V2 computer. Compared to the micro:bit V1, the V2 features improved processor speed and memory capacity, as well as added out-of-the-box sound and touch functionality.

The Micro:bit V2, which is half the size of a credit card, is an ultra-small computer designed for computer education by the Micro:bit Foundation, which was established with support from the BBC and other organizations in the UK. It was developed to allow students to experience AI (artificial intelligence) and ML (machine learning) in the classroom.

Based on previous requests, the Micro:bit Foundation has added a MEMS sensor microphone and a 9mm magnetic loudspeaker, connected to a dedicated LED to indicate on/off, to V2.

The main processor, Nordic Semiconductor's nRF52833 SoC, operates at 64MHz and features 512kB of flash storage and 128KB of RAM. It also includes a discrete regulator capable of supplying up to 200mA to external accessories. A sleep/off mode has also been added. The official editor supports both V1 and V2.
