The Gen4X controller provides industry-leading noise immunity and is designed for cost-sensitive platforms, including models for the rapidly growing Chinese smartphone market. The Gen4X controller delivers exceptional performance against all noise sources—the biggest challenge faced in touchscreen design—and supports both in-cell and SLIM™ single-layer architectures to meet the system-level price points required to drive high volumes in emerging markets. The analog front-end improvements of the Gen4X controller family enable minimizing size and doubling the charger noise immunity of the previous Gen4 product, which was popular among leading global vendors for its superior performance in noisy environments. Gen4X provides the world's most robust charger noise immunity from 1 to 500 kHz up to 15V peak-to-peak (Vpp) with a 0.5-mm cover lens and a 22 mm-wide finger. Additionally, Gen4X features an exceptional signal-to-noise ratio due to Cypress's proprietary ability to provide on-chip 10V Tx and the exclusive Tx-Boost™ multiphase Tx solution.

Furthermore, Gen4X delivers high-performance multi-touch capabilities with advanced customizable features, including Cypress's superior water resistance. The entire Gen4 product family operates perfectly even with moisture or wet fingers on the touchscreen. These capabilities are made possible by Cypress's proprietary, patent-pending feature that provides both self and mutual capacitance sensing on the same chip.

High-speed, low-power system solutions:
Gen4X uses the same 32-bit ARM® Cortex™ core, which is the core of the Gen4 family, to provide an optimal combination of speed and low power consumption. This family offers a deep-sleep mode that consumes only 4.5 uW, with a refresh rate of 150 Hz and a wake-up initiated by an address match on the COM port.

Gen4X devices provide up to 36 capacitive sensing I/O for ideal sensor pitch with up to 5-inch screens, support for standalone CapSense touch-sensing buttons, and drive both in-cell structures and slim single-layer sensors. Gen4X is the first family of touchscreen controllers to deliver superphone performance to emerging markets.

Product Status:
Samples of Cypress's new Gen4X controllers are currently available, and mass production is scheduled for the first quarter of 2013. The Gen4X family is available in 44-pin 5 mm x 5 mm QFN packages with 28 sense I/O, 44-pin 5 mm x 5 mm QFN packages with 33 sense I/O, and 48-pin 6 mm x 6 mm QFN packages with 36 sense I/O.
