Improved cooling performance for mining operations without display output
As the cryptocurrency market resurfaces, a shortage of graphics processing units (GPUs) is also resurfacing. GPU manufacturer Nvidia is taking action.
On the 19th, NVIDIA announced that instead of limiting the cryptocurrency mining efficiency of the 'GeForce RTX 3060' GPU, which will be released on the 25th, to 50%, it will release the 'NVIDIA CMP (Cryptocurrency Mining Processor)' specialized for mining.
While NVIDIA's GeForce GPU series is designed for gamers, its programmability has seen it utilized in a wide range of applications, from weather simulation and genetic analysis to deep learning and robotics. Cryptocurrency mining is one such application.
The development of CMP was undertaken to stabilize the market price of products targeting gamers and to meet the growing demand for mining. CMP lacks display output, improving airflow during mining operations and enabling higher-density packaging. Furthermore, its lower peak core voltage and frequency improve mining power efficiency.
