TI Brings Best-in-Class Audio and Vehicle Control Technology to Audi's Next-Generation Vehicles
TI Korea (Chief Executive Officer Kent Chun, www.ti.com/ww/kr) December 20, 2012 – TI (Chief Executive Officer Kent Chun) announced that it has for the first time integrated TI's "Jacinto 5" automotive infotainment processor into the MIB High system, the next-generation infotainment platform for Audi vehicles.
The Jacinto 5 serves an important role as a new architecture for Audi's advanced infotainment system, which consists of the "MMX (multimedia applications unit)" and the highly integrated "RRC (radio and car control unit)". Within the RRC unit of Audi's MIB High system, which will first be introduced in the 2012 Audi A3, it supports vivid digital radio and audio functions, and additionally supports rich automotive interfaces.
TI's Jacinto 5 automotive infotainment processor is a heterogeneous multicore processor that provides real-time signal processing, flexibility, and power, and has completed automotive certification. It also includes an integrated ARM Cortex A8 core that manages middleware, drivers, and application stacks, along with a DSP that handles audio, radio, and automotive low-level tasks. It also integrates various automotive peripherals and connectivity options. Furthermore, as a highly integrated system-on-chip, it supports cost-effective design of mid and high-level infotainment systems and enables scalability to add functionality of external application processors.
TI collaborated with Audi and other leading suppliers to participate in Audi's goal of extending the lifespan of vehicle interfaces and providing customers with best-in-class infotainment functionality. The extended timespan made possible by the MIB High system's innovative modular approach enables developers to maintain a stable vehicle processor within the RCC unit and provides flexibility to integrate future consumer-demanded features into the MMX unit.
