STMicroelectronics Launches New Voltage Comparator with Superior Power Dissipation and Speed

January 2, 2013, Seoul — STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company providing a wide range of electronic applications, has launched the new voltage comparator TS881. Leveraging ST’s state-of-the-art design and manufacturing capabilities, this next-generation component offers superior accuracy and improved low power consumption. It can significantly enhance the fast operation and energy efficiency of equipment such as gas sensors, medical devices, safety systems, and industrial controllers.
The TS881 is the first of ST’s latest comparators to guarantee a supply voltage of up to 1.1V and a wide temperature range even at that minimum voltage. It can operate with small batteries and offers longer operating times. Consequently, it is suitable for front-end sensing and measurement circuit applications, and above all, its response speed is significantly faster than that of competitor products.
Utilizing new technology in ST’s analog design, it consumes a very low operating current of 210nA (average at 25°C), which is about half the current consumption of competing products. In addition, when driving capacitive and resistive loads, the push-pull output circuit completely minimizes power consumption.
By 2013, dual and quad variants equipped with two to four comparators in a single package will be added to the TS881 family. These new generation devices expand ST’s industry-leading comparator portfolio, which also includes the TS3011, released in 2011, featuring very low current consumption and the industry’s fastest 8ns response time.
