TI Redefines Automotive Infotainment: Delivering a Driver Experience Like No Other with the “Jacinto 6” Automotive OMAP™ Processor

TI Korea (CEO Kent Jeon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) January 9, 2013 – TI (CEO Kent Jeon) announced the launch of the Automotive OMAP™ processor, capable of enabling unprecedented in-vehicle entertainment and telematics capabilities. Designed under the codename “Jacinto 6,” the new DRA74x processor builds upon TI’s proven OMAP 5 architecture to provide optimized automotive solutions by adding audio, analytics, radio accelerators, automotive interfaces, and peripherals. By integrating automotive interfaces into the processor architecture, it delivers best-in-class performance while reducing the electronic component Bill of Materials (BOM) for automotive infotainment customers by more than 25%. DRA74x Automotive OMAP Processor
The new DRA74x (“Jacinto 6”) processor, based on the OMAP 5 architecture and featuring dual ARM® Cortex™-A15 cores, dual Cortex-M4 cores, and Multi-Imagination Technologies’ POWERVR™ SGX544-MPx graphics core, has improved ARM CPU performance by up to 5 times and graphics (GPU) performance by up to nearly 7 times compared to the previous generation “Jacinto 5”. These processors also added the following elements based on the OMAP 5 processor to meet specific automotive infotainment requirements.

Automotive Interfaces: 2x CAN, MOST MLB (Media Local Bus), PCIe, Ethernet AVB, 3.3VI/O
Optional 680MHz floating-point VLIW DSP for SDR (Software-Defined Radio), advanced audio, and voice processing integration

Major infotainment vendors support TI's automotive OMAP (“Jacinto”) processor
TI is collaborating with ecosystem partners consisting of major automotive suppliers to realize the capabilities of the future. Many of these ecosystem partners have adopted TI’s “Jacinto” processors and are expressing high expectations for the newly released Jacinto 6 products.

Supply period
The DRA74x “Jacinto 6” processor is scheduled to begin supplying samples in the middle of this year, with mass production targeted for the second half of 2014. Like other OMAP processors, these DRA74x are intended for bulk automotive customers and will not be supplied through distributors.
