TTA-Gyeonggi Innovation Center Supports 5G Millimeter Wave Terminal Development

On the 3rd, the Korea Information and Communications Technology Association (TTA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gyeonggi Innovation Center for Creative Economy, which has established a 5G millimeter wave testbed and is providing customized support services for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This MoU was pursued in response to the growing demand for testing and certification from domestic companies due to the growth of the 5G terminal market and the activation of services, which necessitated the strengthening of customized corporate support infrastructure.

TTA has established 5G FR1 (3.5GHz) and FR2 (28GHz) testing infrastructure to support the export of 5G terminals by domestic companies through the Ministry of Science and ICT's 'Establishment of Infrastructure to Support the Full Lifecycle of International Accredited Testing for 5G Terminals' project, and is providing international accredited testing and certification services.
With the signing of this MoU, TTA is now able to accelerate the securing of product reliability based on its 5G internationally accredited testing infrastructure, including ▲support for 5G internationally accredited testing and certification (GCF, PTCRB, etc.) ▲support for 5G technology consulting and product development. The Gyeonggi Innovation Center is now able to help promote corporate growth by focusing on supporting the demonstration environment, such as supporting network interoperability testing through the 5G millimeter wave testbed and providing space for 5G activation.
TTA Chairman Choi Young-hae stated, “The combination of TTA’s internationally accredited 5G testing infrastructure and the Gyeonggi Innovation Center’s millimeter wave testbed has made systematic technical support for various 5G innovation companies possible,” adding that “it is expected to contribute significantly to the revitalization of the 5G industry.”

The foundation for indoor millimeter-wave 5G mobile communication services has been laid.
ETRI가 기지국으로부터 밀리미터파 기반 광대역 5G 신호를 받아 건물 내로 보낼 수 있는 광 중계기 기술을 개발했다. 아파트 옥상에 설치된 5G 기지국 인터페이스가 인근 기지국으로부터 5G 신호를 받고, 이를 RoF 기술이 탑재된 아파트 단자함이 광 신호로 바꾼 후, 층별 실내 곳곳에 분산된 안테나로 전달하는 방식이다.

5G Smart Busan Port Starts with “Remote Crane Control”
부산항만공사가 LG유플러스와 손잡고 부산항에 5G 망 도입을 추진한다. 도입한 망은 하역 장비, 물류창고 등 다양한 분야에 활용된다. 기존 항만의 스마트항만 업그레이드에는 5G가 적합하다. 유선망을 포설한다면 24시간 365일 운영되어야 할 컨테이너 터미널 운영을 일시 중지해야 하고, 광케이블로 인해 크레인의 작동반경이 제한된다. 반면 5G를 이용하면 별도 공사 없이 원격제어 시스템을 구축할 수 있다.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
