Fairchild Semiconductor's Short-circuit Anode IGBT Products – Providing high reliability and excellent switching performance for high-power induction heating applications

High-power, high-frequency induction heating (IH) appliances require low conduction losses and superior switching performance to achieve high efficiency and system reliability in applications such as IH rice cookers, tabletop induction cookers, and inverter-type microwave ovens. Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS)’s high-voltage field-stop shorted-anode trench IGBT products provide a cost-effective solution that achieves high efficiency, enabling designers to address these design challenges.
These new IGBT products, ranging from 1100V to 1400V, are optimized to achieve smooth switching when used with intrinsic antiparallel diodes. As an improvement over conventional non-punch-through (NPT) IGBT technology, Fairchild’s short-circuit anode silicon technology provides a saturation voltage more than 12 percent lower than that of an NPT trench IGBT of the same rating. Additionally, these products offer a tail current rating more than 20 percent lower than that of competitors' IGBT products. Due to these characteristics, Fairchild’s improved IGBT products achieve superior thermal performance, higher efficiency, and reduced power loss.
