Functional safety is one of the key features embedded systems must possess, and companies must consider development tools as a prerequisite for system certification. However, proving development tool compliance requires significant development costs and time.

IAR Systems announced on the 20th that its 'IAR Embedded Workbench for RISC-V ' has received TÜV SÜD certification in accordance with the requirements of the functional safety international standard 'IEC 61508' and the automotive safety standard 'ISO 26262'.

TÜV SÜD certification covers both 'IEC 62304', which specifies the lifespan requirements for medical products, and the European railway standards 'EN 50128' and 'EN 50657'. It also includes the standard 'IEC 60730' for home appliances, the standards 'ISO 13849' and 'IEC 62061' for machine control systems, the standard 'IEC 61511' for the process industry, and the standard 'ISO 25119' for agriculture and forestry.

The IAR Embedded Workbench is a TÜV SÜD-certified development toolchain that includes the IAR C/C++ Compiler™ and C-SPY® Debugger. In-house testing has proven it suitable for use in safety-related development processes.

This software is complemented by native debugging and trace probes. The debugging probe, "I-jet," supports buffered on-chip RAM tracing and fast JTAG, cJTAG, and DAP debug. This is complemented by the trace probe, "I-jet Trace," which can stream trace information in real time for code coverage and profiling.

IAR Embedded Workbench Functional Safety Certification Version 1.40 includes a functional safety certificate, a TÜV SÜD safety report, and safety guidelines. IAR Systems offers a functional safety support and update contract, guaranteeing support for the purchased version for the duration of the contract. Under the contract, users receive priority technical support, access to verified service packs, and regular reports on reported issues.
